Sell an old RV or camper in Houston

Got an older RV or camper from the '80s, '90s or 2000s? We buy old motorhomes and trailers in Houston that dealers and RV parks turn away.

If you want to sell an old RV for cash in Houston, its age alone does not tell the whole story. A camper that is 15, 20 or more years old may still have value, especially when its structure is sound and its ownership paperwork is clear. Cash For RV buys older RVs directly from owners across Greater Houston, including units that need work.

You do not have to restore your camper before asking us to consider it. Share its condition honestly, including leaks, mechanical problems and years spent sitting. We review clean, worn, damaged and non-running RVs, explain our offer and tell you if yours is not a fit.

The short version

  • Condition, ownership paperwork and demand matter more than age alone.
  • Some parks restrict older RVs, which can reduce the pool of private buyers.
  • You can request an offer without replacing tires, appliances or the roof first.
  • Missing titles and inherited campers need paperwork checked before closing.

Selling an old RV for cash in Houston: who still buys?

Private buyers, vintage enthusiasts and direct RV buyers may consider an older camper. Dealers are often reluctant to accept older trade-ins because repairs and resale preparation can be difficult to justify. We buy RVs outright, so you do not need to purchase another RV or arrange a trade.

Some RV parks use a 10-year rule or otherwise restrict older units. Policies vary, and some parks consider photos or condition rather than age alone. Still, a buyer who needs park approval may pass on an older RV even if it works. That can shrink your buyer pool, but it does not make every older camper worthless.

What can preserve an older camper’s value

A solid roof, firm floors and dry walls give an older RV a stronger starting point. Working air conditioning, refrigeration and other appliances also help because the next owner has fewer immediate problems to address. Maintenance records can support your description, although they do not replace checking the RV’s present condition.

Certain vintage models, including classic aluminum trailers, may attract interest because of their design and construction. Original details can matter to an enthusiast, but age does not automatically make a camper collectible. Our guide to what affects an RV’s value explains why condition and comparable units matter more than sentimental value or money already spent.

Wear that lowers an offer on a 20-year-old RV

Houston’s heat, humidity and heavy rain can be hard on a camper stored outside. Water intrusion may damage more than the visible ceiling stain, while long periods parked can leave plumbing, seals and mechanical systems unreliable. Tell us what you know, even if you cannot identify the cause.

We consider damaged RVs in their current condition, so you can ask for an offer before deciding whether repairs make sense. If the roof or structure has reached the end of its useful life, our page about selling a junk RV or camper offers more relevant expectations.

  • Aged or cracked tires, even when the tread looks usable.
  • Brittle plumbing, leaking fittings or an unreliable water system.
  • Outdated or nonworking appliances and air conditioning.
  • Roof deterioration, soft floors, wall separation or recurring leaks.

Finding an old title and checking missing paperwork

Before moving the camper, find the ownership documents and compare the vehicle identification number with the RV. An old title is not necessarily a problem, but a missing title, unresolved lien or different owner’s name needs attention. For a lost Texas title, a certified copy is requested from TxDMV using Form VTR-34.

Texas requires titles for trailers with a gross weight over 4,000 pounds. Trailers at 4,000 pounds or less require registration, with a title optional. Motorhomes have different paperwork needs from untitled lightweight campers, so do not assume missing paperwork is harmless. Review our guide to selling an RV with a missing title, and confirm your requirements with TxDMV or your county tax assessor-collector’s office.

Selling a parent’s old camper

If your parent still owns the RV, clarify who will sign and whether anyone else is named on the title. Having the keys or storing the camper at your house does not establish authority to transfer ownership. Gather the title, registration and any loan information before arranging a sale.

If your parent has died, the process depends on the estate. When there is no will and no probate is opened, heirs may be able to use Form VTR-262, subject to TxDMV conditions. With a will, probate is generally required. Our inherited RV selling guide outlines what to gather; confirm authority with TxDMV, the county tax office or an attorney.

Getting a realistic offer without restoring the RV

Start with clear photos of the exterior, roof if safely visible, interior, tires and damaged areas. Include the year, make, model, location and whether the RV runs or rolls. For motorhomes, share the mileage and any known engine or transmission issues. Mention flood exposure, long storage periods and appliances you have not tested.

A direct cash offer may be lower than what a patient private seller hopes to receive. In exchange, you avoid managing buyer appointments and arranging removal yourself. We charge no fees or commissions, and there is no obligation. You can request a cash offer for your older RV before spending money on repairs that may not increase its value enough to recover the cost.

From your first photos to payment and removal

Send your details through our online form, call or text. We review them and provide a cash offer, often the same day, then arrange a quick in-person look at your home, storage lot, RV park or repair shop in Greater Houston. Our selling process applies to older motorhomes, trailers, camper vans, pop-ups and other RV types.

If the RV matches your description, the offer stands. If we find a significant undisclosed issue, we explain the finding and any price change; you can walk away. At signing, we pay by cashier’s check, bank transfer or cash, handle title paperwork and any lender payoff, then tow or drive the RV away at no cost. You remove your plates and should file the free TxDMV Vehicle Transfer Notification within 30 days to protect against post-sale tickets, tolls and liability.

Frequently asked questions

Should I clean out an old camper before sending photos?

Remove personal belongings and open cabinets or storage areas enough to show their condition. Basic cleaning can make photos clearer, but you do not need to detail or renovate the camper for us to review it. Photograph stains, damaged surfaces and cluttered areas honestly rather than covering problems. Tell us if belongings or debris will remain so we can consider that before offering.

Can I sell an older RV if I still owe money on it?

Yes, we can work with an existing loan and pay the lender directly at closing. You receive any equity after payoff. If the payoff exceeds our offer, you must cover the difference at closing; we do not make loans. Ask your lender for current payoff instructions and confirm its lien-release process, including whether it holds an electronic Texas title.

What if my old motorhome has not started in years?

A non-running motorhome can still be considered. Tell us when it last ran, what happened before it stopped and whether anyone has diagnosed it. Photos of the tires, access route and surrounding space help us assess removal. You do not need to make it roadworthy first, but some units may not be a fit, and we will say so honestly.

Do you buy older campers outside Houston city limits?

Yes, our buying area includes Greater Houston communities in Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria, Galveston, Waller and Chambers counties. Share the camper’s actual location when requesting an offer, especially if it is stored somewhere other than your home. We only serve Greater Houston, and removal is included at no cost when we purchase your RV.
